Maria Gini is a Distinguished Professor of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. She is a faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Her research area is Artificial Intelligence, in particular autonomous robots, multi-agent systems, and conversational agents. She is a Fellow of ACM, of AAAI, and of IEEE. She has received numerous awards, including the AAAI service award, the Harrold and Notkin Research and Graduate Mentoring Award, and the Nico Habermann award from CRA for her contributions to increase the number and successes of underrepresented members of the computing research community. Throughout her career, she has worked tirelessly to recruit and retain students from underrepresented groups in computing and has engaged in numerous outreach and mentoring activities at all levels from K-12 to graduate students, postdocs, and junior faculty. She is the chair of the Diversity and Inclusion committee of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).
