Charisa Powell is a cybersecurity research engineer in the Secure Cyber Energy Systems Group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
Powell earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science with a focus on cybersecurity from Florida State University. As a CyberCorps Scholarship for Service Recipient, she focused heavily on digital forensics and cryptography.
At NREL, Powell is a lead author on technical papers and proposals for the Water Power Technologies Office. She also works closely with other engineers, developing and supporting emulation capabilities of power systems and distributed energy resources.
In addition to her research role, Powell is the co-founder of NREL’s Early Career Network employee resource group. She continues to be an advocate for supporting women and minorities in cybersecurity.
