Dr. Tiara Cornelius is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She is also the Executive Director of the STEM STARS Program which was created as a result of UMES being the first and only HBCU to receive the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Driving Change Award.

Dr. Cornelius earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and her Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Doctorate in Applied Mathematics with a specialization in Inverse Problems and Partial Differential Equations from Delaware State University.

Dr. Cornelius’s research focuses on implementing Project Based Learning into undergraduate and Inverse Problem. Her scholarly work has been published in ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software, Springer’s Journal of Scientific Computing, Wiley’s Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, and AMS Mathematics of Computation.
