Your Brain Trust: How Peer Mentorship Unlocks Harder Technical Problems

Technical excellence and mentorship aren't separate tracks — the best engineers grow fastest when they have peers to think alongside. In this panel, Black engineers working at the frontier of AI systems, cloud infrastructure, and engineering leadership share how mentorship and sponsorship shaped their technical range — and how a trusted circle of peers helped them take on work that once felt out of reach. From architecting agentic AI platforms to leading the infrastructure tools that run at global scale, the panelists show how they leaned on peers such as ERGs and/or DevColor's A* program and Squads as a technical sounding board: a place to debug a design, sanity-check a career-defining bet, or learn a new domain without the fear of looking unqualified.
